Inexpensive Wine for Uncertain Times
Posted on Nov 17, 2008
We’re all watching our spending a little more carefully these days, and unfortunately that goes for our wine budgets too. During our recent consumer tastings, I’ve noticed a definite increase in the excitement shown for bottles under $12.00. Luckily, Ionia Atlantic has several quality wines to offer in this price range. In fact, several of these wines should be under $10.00/bottle!
Terre Domini “The Paradise” Pinot Grigio IGT
A fresh and fruity Pinot Grigio with plenty going on, especially for the price. Crisp, clean, and perfect for holiday dinner parties. This is not your average watered down Pinot Grigio.
Terre Domini “The Paradise” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC
Ripe red fruit and hints of earth and spice make this wine a simple yet satisfying choice for everyday sipping. Need a red and white wine open for the party? The Paradise family is the perfect choice.
Vinchio Vaglio Serra “Kroara” Barbera Piemonte DOC
Entry level wine from a fantastic Barbera producer. The producer recognized the need for an inexpensive wine that would sell quickly, but carry a bit of their more expensive Barbera along with it. What they lose in profit, we gain in a fantastic wine for the price. Fresh and fruity with cleansing acidity and a bit of black pepper as it opens up. Versatile food wine that can be paired with a variety of dishes.
Barbi “Abboccato” Orvieto Classico DOC & Barbi “Secco” Orvieto Classico DOC
Two great white wines from one producer. Barbi’s Orvieto are crisp, clean, and refreshing with nice notes of mineral, apple, and pear. These wines are perfect for seafood pairing. “Abboccato” is the slightly sweeter version, so it makes great sipping wine or pair it with seafood in a spicy broth.
