While stationed in Sigonella, Sicily with the United States Navy, Nathan Woodhouse fell in love with the food, wine, and people of Italy. After nearly four years in Italy, Nathan returned to the U.S. to complete his Finance degree. Here, he met Kallie Smith and together they began exploring the world of wine.
The lack of good Italian wine and espresso left Nathan yearning for the ways of Italy. Luckily, Nathan was great friends with Giuseppe Arena, roaster of the Sicilian espresso Kili Caffe. To this day, it is the best espresso we have tasted. With a nudge from Giuseppe, Nathan and Kallie began a plan to import Kili Caffe, and eventually wine, to the U.S.
In 2003, with degrees completed, Ionia Atlantic Imports officially began. The foundation for importing was laid with espresso and in 2005 wine followed. Nathan and Kallie’s passion for wine, coupled with praise for their quality focused portfolio, allowed the wine division to grow quickly.
The world of wine is vast. We focus solely on Italian wine in an effort to offer our customers in-depth knowledge of each region, producer, and wine. We want to share the intricacies, beauty, and history of Italian wine with America. With our dedication to quality wines, customer support, and consumer education, we hope to establish Ionia Atlantic as the premier Italian wine importer; synonymous with the best of Italy.
