Castellari Bergaglio

Castellari Bergaglio

Castellari Bergaglio is a small winery hidden near Gavi in the Lemme valley. It is an unassuming farm, but one that is producing some of the best and most respected Gavi. Gavi is a noble white wine made from the Cortese grape. It produces a wine with longer life than most white wines and its characteristics can rival even the greatest whites.

Marco Bergaglio is a true Gavi producer. Four different Gavi are produced and each have their own attributes and place at the table. The Rovereto for example is a Vigna Vecchia, or ’old vine’ Gavi di Gavi. The vines producing this wine are more than 80 years old. The ’Pilin’ wine is named for Marco’s grandfather and is the top of the line in Gavi. It is a selection of the best grapes from each vineyard and therefore it cannot carry the ’di Gavi’ designation even though it is produced from the greatest efforts of the Bergaglio family. To taste a Gavi from Castellari Bergaglio is to taste the best this region and grape have to offer.
