Another beauty from this wonderful estate. Campo alla Sughera, much like other Bolgheri producers, has densely planted vines and extremely low yields. This produces an immensely complex and concentrated wine. Arnione is created from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. Intense ruby red, with garnet reflections, extremely complex on the nose. Notes of mature black fruits (blackberry, mulberry, prunes, and cassis) fade into sweet tobacco scents, with aromatic spices between them. Full and harmonious, with great softness and elegance, and a long and persistent finish.
New French oak barriques are used, from various coopers to impart complexity. Simply one of the finest wines we’ve had, and as we noted after a week in Tuscany, a welcome break from our favorite Tuscan varietal, Sangiovese.
